High-Quality, Holistic Chiropractic Care: More than just pain relief!
Merging traditional wisdom and modern science!
My practice embraces both the traditional and the modern. Traditional
chiropractic emphasizes the following concepts: 1) The "innate" power of the body to heal itself naturally, without the use of drugs
or surgery, 2) The role of the nervous system as
master controller of all bodily functions, 3) The importance of
a healthy spine and body structure and 4) The importance of proper diet, exercise, rest and 'positive thinking' in the maintenance of health. Like
many traditional chiropractors, I am disappointed with popular medicine's overemphasis on symptoms and secondary effects and under-emphasis
on body function and the root causes of dis-ease. There is too much reliance on
often-toxic medication and high-risk surgery and
commonly, these
approaches do not even address the true cause of the problem. Have you
ever heard the saying "Don't shoot the messenger"? Unfortunately,
conventional medicine spends a lot of time and effort shooting the
messenger. If you have pain (the messenger) you get something which
masks the pain. If you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol (these are not really diseases...rather, they are your body's normal reponse to a stressor/toxin/deficieny), you get
something which artificially lowers your blood pressure or cholesterol. But these medications
never address the root cause of the pain, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.
Traditional chiropractors are concerned with finding and correcting the
root causes of pain and dysfunction.
On the other hand, modern chiropractors respect all
other health care professions and appreciate the commitment and special
responsibilities all doctors share. I, like all modern chiropractors,
am highly-trained and continually go back to school to learn more. I
have excellent relationships with all reasonable medical doctors
and continually work with these good folks for the good of our common
patients. Modern chiropractors, are experts in the biomechanical
aspects of the human body, especially the spine (the highway for the
nervous system). Modern chiropractors can easily and expertly determine
if a patient has a condition that falls outside the scope of
chiropractic practice or if a patient needs to be referred for medical
attention.
Like all chiropractors, I am neither licensed to prescribe drugs nor
can I perform surgery. When appropriate, I will refer my patients to
medical physicians. Likewise,
medical doctors are not licensed to
prescribe or perform chiropractic evaluation and/or treatment and
should refer their patients to doctors of chiropractic, when
appropriate. I regularly work in concert with Newberg-Area medical
practitioners for the common good of our patients.
